Clinical Experiences

Xue Ling is a registered physiotherapist with the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC), bringing with her over 15 years of extensive clinical and teaching experience in the field of physiotherapy.

Since April 2010, Xue Ling has been serving as a Physiotherapist at the National Heart Centre Singapore, specializing in Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cardiovascular Medicine. In this role, she provides a high level of physiotherapy care to patients with complex and specialized conditions, including Heart Failure, Heart and Lung transplant recipients, and patients supported by Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) systems.

She has extensive experience delivering physiotherapy care to patients in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and the Cardiothoracic Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU). Her clinical expertise includes the management of ventilated patients, tracheostomy care, and rehabilitation of patients with neurological complications such as stroke, as well as those debilitated from prolonged hospitalization.

In the outpatient cardiac rehabilitation setting, she is actively involved in exercise prescription and training, reviewing and progressing individualized exercise programmes, and counseling patients in the management of their health conditions to promote optimal recovery and long-term wellbeing.

Other Experiences

Beyond clinical work, she oversees the overall operational management of the inpatient physiotherapy team and plays a role in the implementation of clinical practice guidelines, policies, and protocols to standardize procedures and enhance care quality within the department.

She is also actively involved in the department’s strategic planning and professional development initiatives, including conducting clinical audits and competency assessments for junior physiotherapists and therapy assistants. Passionate about staff development, she mentors and guides team members through personalized development programmes, helping them refine their skills and prepare for leadership roles within the profession.

Xue Ling has also gained international experience through specialist volunteer work in Cambodia as part of Singapore’s international medical outreach initiatives. In 2016 and 2018, she served in the Emergency Medical Care Project at Calmette Hospital, contributing to the development of acute care practices and physiotherapy services within a multidisciplinary team.

In 2017, Xue Ling participated in the Physiotherapy Bachelor’s Programme Upgrade Project at the University of Health Sciences, supporting curriculum enhancement and capacity building to strengthen physiotherapy education and clinical standards for cardiac rehabilitation in Cambodia.
