Heart & Lung Physio Assessment and Rehabilitation Process

Every session will be conducted on a 1 to 1 basis ensuring full attention and personalisation.

The following assessments will be performed on your first session:

  1. Identification for symptoms and its severity for example, pain, fatigue, weakness, changes to sensation.
  2. Assessment of the musculoskeletal system, physical function, stamina and body composition.
  3. Risk factor identification and need for further screening or medical clearance.
  4. Assessment of current function and stamina.

With clinical knowledge of the impact of cancer treatment on various body systems, our therapists are able to tailor and modify an exercise programme according to your symptoms, presentation and stage of recovery.

Progression of exercises will be done at a comfortable pace and within safe limits according to goals set mutually.

Before embarking on your cancer rehabilitation journey, please seek consent from your primary physician to ensure that you have been medically cleared and safe to commence exercising.

Can I exercise during chemotherapy, radiotherapy or hormonal treatment?

Yes you can!

Exercise is safe and beneficial before, during, and after cancer treatment. In fact, physical activity has shown to help reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and help improve your quality of life as well as increase the amount of energy you have to carry on with your daily activities.

It is important to get clearance with your primary doctor before starting your exercise programme with us, so that we are informed about your ongoing cancer treatment and how to tailor your exercise programme to meet your needs.

Can I exercise if I have a port/PICC line/chemo pump and or/stoma?

Exercise is safe as long as proper precautions during exercise are taken. If you have a port/PICC line/chemo pump and or/stoma, clearance to attend our exercise programme and any precautionary advice should be sought from your primary physician before attending our exercise programme. Your exercise programme will be tailored accordingly to the precautions provided by your primary physician, as well as taking into consideration the location of your port/PICC line/chemo pump and/or stoma. This will ensure that you will be safe throughout your exercise programme with us.
