Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to do exercise before my surgery?

Exercise before surgery (prehabilitation) helps you to feel better and stronger prior to your surgery. With better fitness levels prior to surgery, it reduces the risk of complications as it prepares your body to better counter stress faced during surgery.

Why do I need to do exercise after my surgery?

Exercise after surgery (post-operative rehabilitation) helps to flood tissues with healthy building materials such as stem cells and anti-inflammatory proteins through the improvement in blood flow to optimise the body’s healing process. Furthermore, it also helps in flushing out toxins and removing dead cells, reducing pain and swelling over your surgical site, speeding up your overall recovery process. Exercise also helps improve your mood and help boost your overall health and quality of life.

Can I go back to sports after surgery?

Depending on the surgery that you have done, consent and precautions to be taken should be obtained from your primary doctor before you go back to your sports activity.

At Heart & Lung Physio, we are equipped with the expertise to rehabilitate and educate you back to your sports activities, so as to prevent any injuries and ensure that you are able to enjoy your sports activities safely.
