Clinical Experiences

Zi Yi is a highly experienced Senior Physiotherapist with close to a decade of expertise in treating patients with complex cardiopulmonary conditions. His career at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) has been marked by his commitment to improving clinical outcomes for patients, especially those in critical care settings. In 2020, he earned his Master’s in Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy with Distinction from University College London, further strengthening his expertise in this field.

Clinical Leadership and Expertise in Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy
At TTSH, Zi Yi quickly became a respected leader in cardiopulmonary physiotherapy, managing patients with a wide range of respiratory and cardiovascular conditions. His extensive experience spans both critical care and general ward settings, where he provided essential physiotherapy interventions to support recovery and enhance patient outcomes.

Zi Yi’s leadership roles included serving as the respiratory physiotherapy lead, where he oversaw the care of patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions. He was instrumental in leading the Medical High Dependency Unit (MHDU), where he was responsible for implementing early mobilization protocols for critically ill patients. These protocols aimed to promote early movement and rehabilitation in the ICU, which has been shown to improve recovery times, reduce complications, and enhance overall clinical outcomes.

Zi Yi was also the physiotherapy lead for the Tracheostomy Workgroup, where he focused on optimizing the management of patients requiring tracheostomies. His work in this area involved facilitating the early weaning of tracheostomies, helping critically ill patients regain the ability to breathe independently, which significantly improved their quality of life and reduced their length of stay in intensive care.

Specialization in Vestibular Rehabilitation
In addition to his cardiopulmonary expertise, Zi Yi is a certified vestibular rehabilitation therapist, specializing in treating patients with dizziness and balance disorders. With over 7 years of experience in this field, he has successfully treated patients suffering from acute to chronic dizziness, including conditions such as vertigo and vestibular neuritis. His approach focuses on using specific exercises and techniques to retrain the brain and improve balance, helping patients regain their independence and quality of life.

Zi Yi’s dedication to vestibular rehabilitation is driven by his belief in empowering patients to take control of their recovery. He takes great pride in seeing his patients make significant improvements, allowing them to return to their daily activities without the debilitating effects of dizziness.
